New hospital needs federal green light
Selangor is prepared to allocate land for a new government hospital for the the district, but Putrajaya needs to be prepared to approve and build it.

Residents clean up flats ahead of celebrations
Families living at the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) apartment on Jalan Raja Lumu here turned out in full force to clean their neighbourhood ahead of Deepavali last Sunday. “Residents are happy that they have come together to help each other keep the area clean,” said MPK councillor Wendy Ong at the sidelines of the gotong-royong event.

Strengthening ties with language
The state-level National Language Month 2011 was launched here to promote a common identity and strengthen ties through a common language last Monday. “The national language should play a role to unify Malaysia, which is well-known for its different cultures and traditions,” said Rusli Abdul Ghani.

Toll extension a further burden
Putrajaya’s move to extend Grand Saga Sdn Bhd’s concession for another five years was met by criticism by Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai. This means motorists on the Cheras-Kajang Highway will continue to pay toll until 2030 instead of 2025.

Low-cost flat upgrade project on track
Refurbishment of 11 selected low-cost flats in four local councils has started under Program Baikpulih Negeri Berkebajikan (Ceria). Under the scheme, which began earlier this month, the state will subsidise 80% of repair costs while the residents pay the balance.

Residents of Taman Sri Mutiara are up in arms over what they fear is a new junkyard in their backyard. Work to prepare the site at Batu 4 Jalan Kapar started recently, but residents are moving to stop it before it poses a threat to them.
