Klang heritage run is back

Published: Fri, 12 Apr 2013

KLANG: The annual Centro Run, which goes through several historical sites such as the Klang Railway Station and Istana Alam Shah, opened for registration yesterday.

This year, the organiser has introduced a 800-metre Family Fun Run which allows children aged between four and nine to run with an accompanying parent, said Centro Properties Group Sdn Bhd managing director Teo Chui Ping (pic).

“It’s a short course and safe route,” she said at a press conference at Centro Mall to launch the June 23 race.

Apart from the Family Fun Run, youths aged 10 to 17 can join a 6km run while those above 18 and senior citizens can opt to participate in the six or 12km run.

Teo, who is an avid runner herself, encourages interested participants to register soon as places usually ran out before the early bird registration closed in previous years.

The organiser expects some 3,500 runners this year.

Early registration fee is RM25 for youths aged 10 to 17, RM35 for participants above 18 and RM60 for the parent and child in the Family Fun Run.

All runners will receive a T-shirt designed specifically for this run and goodies provided by sponsors such as Munchy’s.

Those who complete the 6km run within an hour and 12km run within two-and-a-half hours will be awarded a pewter medal and certificate.

The top 10 winners will receive a pewter trophy, medal as well as sports, food and beverage and other shopping vouchers.

This is the fifth year the run, limited to Malaysians, will be held.

It is organised in partnership with the Klang Pacers Athletic Club, whose representative John Heng was also present at the press conference, and supported by Tourism Selangor.

Others present included Centro Properties Group general manager Jerry Miranda, Teo Shaw Ching from Munchy’s, Lim See Chin from Magnum, New Balance corporate communication manager M Thanasekaran and Tourism Selangor public relations and promotion manager Md Saad Mahsah.

Registration forms are available for download at www.centro.com.my or can be obtained in person at Centro Mall Customer Service Counter and New Balance outlets at Subang Parade, 1 Utama, The Gardens, Mid Valley, Cheras Leisure Mall and IOI Mall.
