AMPANG: The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council is showing leniency to political parties who want to put up their flags around the municipality before elections are called.
“We understand that the election mood is near. We allow the political parties to put up the flags two days prior and after a ceramah,” said Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) deputy president Abdul Hamid Hussain.
He said legally, the political parties are only allowed to display their flags and banners on the streets during the election campaign period.
But since there are so many political events now, the council is allowing the parties to leave the flags up instead of taking it up and down.
MPAJ enforcement director Addy Hissham Elias advised party workers to be considerate.
He said the council would have to remove flags if they were found to be obstructing traffic or have damaged public properties.
