CNY joy at charity home

Published: Fri, 08 Feb 2013

SEMENYIH: Residents at a charity home here were treated to Chinese New Year goodies and performances by local musicians during a visit by Sungei Wang Plaza representatives.

The mall’s management and merchants brought well-known Chinese pop singers Zhuang Xue Zhong and Athena Beh to entertain the senior citizens at the House of Joy last Wednesday.

The charity visit was held in conjunction with the mall’s Chinese New Year celebration themed “Springtime Rhythm” from Jan 15 to Feb 15.

Sungei Wang Plaza senior marketing and communications manager KK Lim said the mall organised such visits to charities every year to help the needy and fulfil their corporate social responsibility.

The residents were presented with angpow packets, gifts and lunch provided by the mall’s management and its merchants’ association.

House of Joy administrative director Lesley Mah thanked Sungei Wang Plaza and its merchants’ association for the support.

“This special visit really cheered up (the old folks),” said Mah.

Founded by Rev Tang Chee Sing and his wife Lee Ching Mun in 1992, House of Joy provides shelter and care for the underprivileged, abandoned and mentally ill.
