SHAH ALAM: Parts of Balakong which have been experiencing dry taps for months have had their water woes solved after pumps and motors were fixed by the local council.

“We are relieved and happy that all areas in Balakong now have water,” said state executive councillor Ronnie Liu.

He made the announcement after the state executive council meeting at the state secretariat on Wednesday.

The state had previously ordered all local councils to assist the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), which Balakong falls under, by supplying water to areas without water supply.

MPKj was also ordered to fix the pumps and motors which supplied water to Balakong with its own finances.

“They will then ask the money back from Syabas,” Liu added.

Previously, missing pump components at unguarded reservoir tanks were blamed for the disruption of water supply to Balakong.

Liu and MPKj councillors discovered the missing equipment while inspecting Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) water reservoirs in Taman Harmoni Indah, Taman Bukit Belimbing, Taman Balakong Jaya and Taman Putra Budiman.

Syabas chief operating officer Datuk Lee Miang Koi was reported to have said the water disruption in the area was caused by the lack of treated water.

He said the Taman Putra Budiman pump house hadbeen unused since March 2009 and had nothing to do with the water crisis faced by residents.
