KOTA DAMANSARA: Daily necessities worth RM18,000 were distributed to 30 women, most of them single mothers, at a charity programme by women’s fitness gym, Curves Kota Damansara, last Sunday.

The recipients were shortlisted from an initial list of 100 women from a public housing scheme (PPR) in Section 8, Kota Damansara.

They were chosen based on their health condition, income level, and their financial burden like school-going kids or medical bills.

“This is one of our efforts to reach out to Kota Damansara, and we want to help the PPRs around the area and our aim is to strengthen women of the community,” said club owner S Amutha.

Members of the gym contributed 900 kg of daily essentials, including rice, cooking oil and biscuits, for the Reach Out Kota Damansara 2012 programme.

The event, at the Shah Alam City Council’s multi-purpose hall at Kota Damansara, included a make-up workshop and competition by Avon, a Zumba session by the club, a ketupat competition, lucky draw, and a dance performance by children from PPR Kota Damansara.

Members of the public were also present at the event and donated more funds for a proposed computer lab for children at the public housing scheme.

Kota Damansara state lawmaker Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim handed over the donations.
