PETALING JAYA: Musical group The Salbiah’s from SMK Cheras KL won the national champion trophy at the DiGi Live Sekolahku Berbakat (DLSB) 2012 finals.
“Our group of five has worked extra hard after school over the last few weeks… this is a sweet victory,” said lead singer Nurul Syazwani.
This was the band’s second appearance in the competition and they performed under the Band Glamer category during the finals at the 1 Utama Shopping Centre recently.
They won RM5,000 while their school received RM3,000 and a one-year free DiGi broadband subscription.
The third annual DLSB competition was held from March 5 to June 30 and was open to all secondary school students in Malaysia.
Participants contested as solo acts or teams of two to six members in categories like singing, band performance, dance and stand-up comedy.
“DLSB has always been about providing a platform for youths to express themselves and showcase their talent,” said DiGi campaign management head Roziyati Abdul Rahman.
She said the various performances had shown that there is a huge pool of talent among youths and it is important to support them.
Musical group Palu Mas from SMK Seri Saujana KL and dance group LA Pop from SMK Air Putih, Kuantan, finished second and third respectively
There were live auditions in Penang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Johor for the contest.
DiGi also introduced an online category for the first time this year, which allowed students to submit their entries via online video for public voting.
Leading up to the national finals, four zone final rounds were held to choose 10 national finalists, who were joined by three online finalists. At each level of the competition, the qualifying teams attended camps featuring motivational training and grooming sessions.
